COMMUNITY

Sara Leah Center

The Sara Leah Center is a community collaboration of individuals, wellness practitioners and organizations. It will be a place to get away, for respite from our overly busy days. Grounding ourselves in small sustainable beginnings, we envision a retreat building with space to facilitate a variety of group activities surrounded by sustainably managed green space for as many as fifty people. Common and private spaces will accommodate activities that will include Reiki, Reflexology, massage Yoga and Pilates, writing, storytellying, maskmaking, drumming, book arts, quilting and related fiber arts, dance, acupuncture, sound therapies, and a variety other wellness modalities and activities.

Further down the road, we envision rustic style green built retreat living spaces to accommodate visitors for a night or a week. Visitors will be welcome to relax and write, create art or simply be quiet and listen.

The Sara Lea will be manifest with the cooperation of others. Partners who see the value in having a wellness center focused on stress reduction within minutes from downtown Bloomington, in beautiful wooded countryside near two thriving vineyards and a wetland being restored

The benefits of reducing stress through enjoyable activities at Sara Leah would radiate out to the larger community. Imagine a place to retreat to and while relaxing learn how to live more sustainably as you are helping to build a pond, or learning to make blueberry jam. As you work, you will know that your efforts contribute to the mutual unfolding of this sustainable retreat.

Our plan and vision sees the grounds developed using edible and sustainable permacultural design elements with green building projects and renewable energy applications as key design elements. Many of our building and design projects will occuring through community workshop opportunities. Some of our goals are simple and will be accomplished with much good work; other projects will require a prolonged effort to accomplish.

Established, Sara Leah will provide facilities for retreat staff, visitors and workshop participants in cozy green building spaces and natural spaces for increased opportunities to joyfuly reduce stress.

Why is Sara Leah focused on stress reduction and wellness support services?

Individuals and business are turning to alternative wellness support, intuitive practices and spiritual healing services including exploration of creative arts to assist in stress reduction and to acquire personal tools for dealing with stress levels.

The American Institute of Stress estimates that 75-95% of visits to doctors can be attributed to bodily stress. Continual stress blocks the body's natural ability to repair, regenerate and protect itself, and the effects of unresolved stress range from minor aches to major health concerns such as heart disease, digestive disorders, depression, respiratory and skin problems.
